The Simpsons, created by Matt Groening is an animated TV Programme That Airs on channel 3 between 7-8 and it is watched in over 60 countries. The Simpsons is much more realistic than the typical American family comedy, despite the fact that it is a cartoon. The show has its own particular brand of humour they take the problems we have every day and turn them into laughter. It's one of the few shows that the family can sit down together and watch, and there's something in it for everyone.
Beginning with Homer, he’s the lazy dad, unmotivated with a love of beer and anything fried. He represents a nation of fast-food obsessed people who hate their office jobs. Homer is referred to in more than one episode as a sort of "everyman," a representation of American men. He rarely cleans or cooks. Homer's life revolves around the television. In fact, the whole family's lives do.
Marge is a typical housewife but she does work a few jobs over the course of the show, Marge is mainly seen cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the kids, typical housewife chores.
Bart is a misunderstood 10 year old, who is a rebel and a troublemaker. Who is always looking out for his sister, Lisa.
Lisa is only 8 and can't wait for college. Her favourite activities include playing her saxophone and attending school. She is a vegetarian and if she could have one thing (besides world peace), it would be a pony.
Maggie is the baby in the family but has done a lot in her one year of life.
The Simpsons Audience would include: Strivers, those who want to be something, but can’t quite get there. Also Survivors People with few resources are considered survivors; they are loyal to familiar brands. Young Hopefuls, Half of 15- 24 years, with low incomes. Struggling Young Families that are centred around family. Affluent Acquirers, 15-39 years of age and The Next Generation those between the ages of 10-14.
In conclusion, The Simpsons are one of the most popular shows on TV because it is so easily adaptable to most people. Many people would agree that The Simpsons is easily one of the funniest shows on television, as it has been consistently since its debut in 1989. It answers life's most difficult situations summed up in two simple sounds "Mmm ... " and , "D'oh!"
